MWK Dag Olav Hessen

Dag O. Hessen is professor in biology at Dept. of Biosciences, University of Oslo. He is mostly working on aquatic food-webs, both freshwater and marine, and has been central in the development of Ecological Stoichiometry. He has also worked on topics related to biodiversity, climate change responses in ecosystems and for the past years also been leading several large project on climate change impacts on aquatic ecosystems. A recent topic of research has been temperature changes on organisms, and how genome size, cell size and organism size are interrelated and depend on ambient temperature.

He got his PhD from University of Oslo on carbon cycling in aquatic ecosystems in 1988, and became a full professor in 1993. He has published a large number of scientific papers and also written a number of popular science books on evolutionary, ecological, and environmental issues.

In the DWARF project he will be primarily responsible for WP 2, but also be involved in WPs 1 and 3.
