BG Barbara Górska

Barbara Górska is a PhD student at the Department of Marine Ecology at the Institute of Oceanology Polish Academy of Sciences. She explores Benthic Biomass Size Spectra (BBSS) in Arctic coastal waters and deep-sea. Her PhD studies are part of the BIOSIZE project, and are focused mainly on influence of environmental parameters (such as organic matter supply, natural disturbances caused by glacial inflows) on BBSS in west Spitsbergen coastal waters and in sediments along the shelf-continental margin-deep sea gradient (500-5000 m) in "HAUSGARTEN' area of the Fram Strait (in cooperation with Alfred Wegener Institute in Bremerhaven, Germany). Within the scope of the BIOSIZE project she has been also working on development of a methodology for BBSS assessment for soft bottom meio- and macrofaunal organisms.

She received a Master's Degree in the field of oceanography (Thesis: “Meiofauna of deep Arctic ocean - temporal changes”), Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, Oceanography, Protection and management of marine resources, University of Gdańsk in 2011, and just afterwards she tarted PhD studies at the Institute of Oceanology PAN.

In DWARF project she will be involved in tasks in the Work Package 4 (Marine Benthic Fauna). In this project she will focus on biomass size structures in meiofauna. She will also work on methodological aspects of measurements of organisms and assessment of Biomass Size Spectra.
