MM Dr Anna Stępień

Anna Stępień will work as a post-doc researcher in the framework of project DWARF, at the Institute of Oceanology Polish Academy of Sciences. Her previous studies have been focused on a group of benthic marine crustaceans – Tanaidacea. These investigations concentrated mainly on taxonomical and phylogenetic issues, with special focus on taxa occurring on coral reefs. Her scientific interests are related also to other benthic marine groups (Bryozoa), especially patterns of species distribution, preferences to abiotic factors.

She received a Master Degree in Environmental Protection from University of Łódz in 2009. Presently she is finishing a PhD study at University of Lodz. Her PhD research concerns Tanaidacea from Australian coral reefs. She will join the DWARF team at the Department of Marine Ecology, Institute of Oceanology PAS in autumn 2014, after the planned defence of the PhD Thesis.

In the DWARF project she will work in Work Package 4 (Benthic Marine Fauna). Her study will concentrate on size of Bryozoa zooids. She will aim to describe spatial and temporal patterns of bryozoan response to global warming in Arctic region and to explore the potential of zooid size as an indicator of environmental changes. Her work will be coordinated by Piotr Kukliński.
