MM Mikołaj Mazurkiewicz

Mikołaj Mazurkiewicz is a Ph.D. student of the Interdisciplinary Polar Studies at Centre for Polar Studies, the polish Leading National Research Centre, institution lead at IO PAS in cooperation with Department of Earth Sciences, University of Silesia (Leading unit) and Institute of Gephysics PAS in Warsaw.

He received a Bachelor Degree in Biological Oceanography at University of Gdańsk in 2012. His oral thesis was about an influence of cyanobacteria on the mortality of mysid shrimps. He received a Master’s Degree in Marine Biology at University of Gdańsk in July 2014. His thesis, that was supervised by Maria Włodarska – Kowalczuk (DWARF project leader), was focused on the spatial and temporal patterns in macrozoobenthic communities and environmental factors controlling them in the Vistula River estuary (the Gulf of Gdańsk).

In the DWARF project he will be involved in work in the Work Package 4 (Marine Benthic Fauna) and this research will be part of his Ph.D. studies. His study will be focused on variations in Biomass Size Spectra of different groups of marine benthic animals as well as the size structure of populations of selected macrobenthic species, as a response to the temperature changes. He is also responsible for web-mastering of the DWARF project web page.
