Proclea malmgreni (Ssolowiew, 1899)

Distinguishing characteristics
No branchiae.
Uncini from the 3rd chaetigerous segment.
Ventral lobe of segment 2 protruding, papillose.

Species description
Upper lip low, narrow. Lower lip prominent, fleshy, crescent-shape. Anterior edge of ventral part of segment 2 protruding and completely covered by several rows of cylindrical papillae with rounded tips. No eyespots. 16 chaetigerous thoracic segments. Notochaetae from segment 4. Uncinigerous thori from segment 6, in double rows on segments 11-19. Tube – loose, very thin inner layer of secretion covered with sand, mud and foraminiferans.

Size
Up to 25 mm long.

Color
In life reddish.

Habitat
In mixed bottoms. At depths from 13-200 m.

Mobility
Sedentary.

Feeding
Surface deposit feeder.

Life cycle

Distribution
Boreal-arctic species, In northern Norway, Barents Sea, White Sea, Franz Josef's Land, Onega Bay.
