Eteone spetsbergensis Malmgren, 1865

Distinguishing characteristics
2 pairs of tentacular cirri.
Ventral pair of tentacular cirri longer than dorsal.
Dorsal cirri of median segments strongly asymmetrical, almost kidney-shaped.

Species description
Body long and slender. Prostomium elongate, oval to conical. Ventral pair of tentacular cirri longer than dorsal. Segment 2 with chaetigerous lobes. Dorsal cirri of anterior segments more or less asymmetrical, oval, those of mid-body strongly asymmetrical, almost kidney-shaped, up to 2 1/2 times as long as broad. Posterior ones asymmetrical, oval. Ventral cirri longer than parapodial lobes. Pygidial cirri finger-like.

Size
Up to 100 mm for 200 segments.

Color
Alive dorsally with reddish banding and dark dorsal cirri, ventrally green. In alcohol almost colourless.

Habitat
On all substrata. Upper sublittoral to 400 m

Mobility
Mobile.

Feeding
Surface deposit feeder.
Predator.

Arctic, North Pacific, North Atlantic, northern North Sea to Ă–resund.
