Thallus filiform, forming tufted or entangled masses, olive-brown, branched densely, mainly oppositely. Chloroplasts discoid. Sporangia occuring irregulary cylindrical. Litophyte and epiphyte. In littoral and upper sublittoral, everywhere. common. Wudely distributed, multizonal species.
