Introduction
This page presents diatoms living in Baltic Sea sediments and as an extras, other phytobenthic species like flagellates, chlorophyceans, cyanobacterias and cilliates from Baltic Sea. All phytobenthic species are from material which was taken for COSA project.

Microphytobenthos is the name of microscopic bottom-living algae. Bottom in Hel site is mostly sandy that is why small benthic diatoms stays on and between sand grains.

Sampling site is located on Hel Peninsula in the north part of Poland.
Microphytobenthos was collected, every month during 2003-2004 from 1.6m depth from first cm of sand core.
